The Mitsubishi L200 is a popular model of pickup truck due to how reliable and robust it is. It’s the product of decades of refinement by the Japanese giant Mitsubishi Motors, ensuring it can be used for commercial purposes as well as domestic.
But with a 4x4 capable of carrying or hauling large weights, there will always be some wear, tear and the eventual failing of some parts. This month, at Milner Off Road we’ll take you through some of the common faults with the Mitsubishi L200 so that you’re aware of what to look out for if you own this particular model or if you’re planning on purchasing one in the near future.

Heating Matrix Leak Fault on Mitsubishi L200
If your heating matrix is leaking - and you’ll probably know because of the antifreeze smell when you’re driving or condensation windows - it can be quite a tricky thing to replace because of where it’s situated which means you’ll have to spend some time getting to it.
The idea of the system is to take the heat from the coolant and supply it into the front of the vehicle to help keep you warm, but some people find this system leaks not long after purchasing the vehicle.
Head Gasket Fault on Mitsubishi L200
A less common fault, but one enough people have found to make it worth a mention is the head gasket leaking. This seal between the cylinder heads and the engine block is normally quite solid but can eventually leak. You might also want to keep your ears tuned to whether the radiator is bubbling and failing as this can be a sign that the head gasket might also be leaking.
Fuel Filter Fault on Mitsubishi L200
You might find, if you own a Mitsubishi L200, that the fuel filters cause a few issues down the line as they’ll eventually see some clogging after roughly 30,000 - 40,000 miles. Add to that the fact that some cheaper diesel types don’t contain lubricant or cleaner to keep things running in premium condition and you might find this common fault occurring.
ABS Sensor Light Fault on Mitsubishi L200
You’ll want to pay special attention to your dashboard as the traction control light is a common fault people find on the L200. You’ll only ever really know the cause of the issue if you have proper diagnostics run on the vehicle but it’s commonly down to the faulty sensors in your ABS.
